Ewelyn Ghionea-Marinof represents the fourth generation of a famous
family of artistes from Romania. Her parents, mother Rodica Marinof-Cretu, a
well known artiste acrobat, and father Marian , have both during the 1970's and
80's been members of the famous springboard acrobatic act the "Cretu
Troupe", and which in 1981 obtained the "Silver Clown" at
the International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo.
Ewelyn started her artistic career at the age of 5 when
she performed in the
"Children's Circus" in 1981 at Circus Knie in Switzerland,
where her parents worked at that time with the springboard act the " Cretu
Troupe ". In the following years, 1982-86, Ewelyn practiced acrobatics,
gymnastics and attended courses in classic ballet at the School of Choreography
and Dance of the Opera Romania in Bucharest, Romania.
In 1986 her parents created a new troupe of springboard consisting of 12
members, in which also Ewelyn and Christan took part. The troupe was lead by Rodica Marinof and was
named the "Ewelyn Marinof Troupe". Already from the start the troupe
had enormous success in the circus world, and in the following years it managed
to appear in the most famous circuses, amusement parks, TV productions,
traditional Christmas and winter shows and circus festivals in Europe and the
USA, amongst others: CIRCUS KNIE, Switzerland,

Christan Ghionea (35) has practiced competitive gymnastics since the age
of 6, becoming "Master of Sport", member of the National Team
of Gymnastics and Romanian Champion (1983).
In 1986, he became member of the "Ewelyn Marinof Troupe", where he
met Ewelyn, who he then married in 1995.
In 1996, Christian and his wife Ewelyn, began to practice a new acrobatic act
on a small springboard, having Rodica their instructor. After two and a half
years of hard training, in 1998, the act was performed for the first time at the
HUNGARIAN CAPITAL CIRCUS in Budapest, Hungary.
In 1999, the "Ewelyn Marinof Troupe" broke up and Ewelyn and
Christian continued to perform the actual springboard act consisting of only the
two of them.
In January 2000, at the 3rd International Circus Festival of
Budapest, the act
was awarded a "Special Prize of the Jury".
